In Lean, value is defined by the customer — not by effort, cost, or internal importance.
If the customer wouldn’t care if it disappeared, it’s not value.
Most organizations define value from the inside out.
Internal priorities.
Internal convenience.
Internal politics.
Lean flips that perspective — and that’s why it’s uncomfortable.
A lot of work feels important.
Much less of it is actually valuable.

You can’t identify waste (muda) without first agreeing on what value actually is.
If everything is labeled “value”, Lean becomes meaningless.
